Katna Terms of Service
Last updated 9 October 2026
These terms cover Katna: the Katna Mail and Katna Calendar apps, the katna-daemon background service, katnactl, and the online services of Katna Server (Katna accounts, read tracking, translation and Katna AI). They are short and in plain language.
1. Who these terms are with
Katna is a personal project by Mozammel, published on this website. By using Katna or a Katna account you accept these terms. If you do not, please do not use it.
2. The software is free and open source
The Katna apps are free software under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. That licence, not these terms, decides what you may do with the code: use it, study it, change it and share it under the same licence. The source is at github.com/QuakeString/katna.
Katna is still being developed, so keep your own backups of anything important; your mail also stays on your mail provider's servers.
3. No warranty
Katna is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose, as sections 15 and 16 of the GNU General Public License state. You use it at your own risk. This applies to the apps and, as far as the law allows, to the services of Katna Server too.
4. Katna accounts
A Katna account is optional and only needed for read tracking, translation and Katna AI. Keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. You must be at least 18 to have one. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
5. Using the services fairly
You agree not to use Katna or Katna Server to:
- send spam, phishing or malware, or mail people who have not agreed to hear from you where the law requires that;
- track people in a way the law where you or they live does not allow (read tracking can be turned off for any message, and you are responsible for using it lawfully);
- break the law, infringe other people's rights, or harass anyone;
- overload, probe or attack Katna Server, or get around its limits.
6. Katna AI and translation
Answers from Katna AI and machine translations are produced automatically and can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. Read them before you rely on them or send them. You can report a bad answer to us at the address below.
Katna AI has a free period. If a paid plan is offered, its price and terms are shown in Katna before you pay, and those terms apply to it.
7. Your content
Your mail and everything you write stay yours. We do not claim any rights to them. Katna Server only handles them as the privacy policy describes, to provide the feature you asked for.
8. Other services
Katna connects to services run by others: your mail providers, Google, Microsoft, Zoho, GitHub and the AI service you choose. Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.
9. Availability and changes to the services
Katna Server is run by one person on a best-effort basis. It may be unavailable at times, and features may change or end. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we stop a service, the apps keep working for everything that does not need it.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from using Katna or Katna Server, including lost mail or data, missed messages, or decisions made on the basis of AI answers or translations. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Privacy
How Katna handles your information is described in the Katna privacy policy.
12. Changes
If we change these terms we will update this page and the date at the top of it, and note material changes in Katna's What's new. Continuing to use Katna or a Katna account after a change means you accept the new terms.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Howrah, West Bengal have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
